FAQ - Fees

Q1/

How much will therapy cost?

$190 - Initial consultation full fee (90 minutes).

$190 - Standard consultation full fee (50 minutes).

Payments are to be made in full on the day of consultation, any Medicare rebate can be processed at the end of your consultation through an online claiming system. Your Medicare rebate is transferred into the bank account you have registered with Medicare.

You are responsible for:

·        gap between the Medicare scheduled fee (currently $124.50 for MHCP) and the full or concession fee,

·        any cancellation fees ($66 including GST),

·        full session fee if I do not have a relevant Medicare referral from a doctor.

No further sessions will offered if any accounts (for sessions or cancellations) remain outstanding after 14 days.  Sessions scheduled within this 14 day period will only be provided if intention to attend and pay on the day is confirmed at least 24 hours prior to the appointment.

$251/hour - Medicolegal Assessments and Reports

(recommended APS rate).

Please contact Michaela to discuss fees for other services.

Q2/

Can I get a Medicare Rebate?

In order to receive a Medicare rebate under the Better Access initiative, you must be referred to a psychologist by an appropriate medical practitioner (GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician). The doctor must first make an assessment that you need the services of a psychologist.

To receive a Medicare Rebate you will need to provide up-to-date Medicare Card details, a copy of the Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), and ensure that the MHCP referral is current (it expires after 12 months, is only valid for 6 sessions before requiring review with the referring doctor, and there is a 10 session limit per calendar year).  You are responsible for covering any gap fee not covered by Medicare, cancellation fee, of full session fee if you do not have a current Mental Health Care Plan.

Medicare rebates are available for a range of specified psychology services for people with certain conditions (see rebate table below).

Q3/

Am I eligible for a concession?

$124.50 - Initial consultation concession fee (90 minutes).

$124.50 - Standard consultation concession (50 minutes).

The concession fee is for those who are Health Care Card or Pension Card holders.  The reduced fee is at the rate of the Mental Health Care Plan Medicare rebate.  Therefore, if you are referred by your GP / Psychiatrist / Paediatrician under a Mental Health Care Plan, the fee can be bulkbilled to Medicare.  If you have a different type of Medicare referral the rebate is less and so there will be a gap between the concession fee and rebate received.

The concession fee can also be charged to those with a Health Care Card or Pension Card who do not have an eligible Medicare referral.  A Private Health Fund Rebate may still be available if you have the relevant extras cover.

A concession fee is generally not available for Medicolegal Assessments or Reports (see Fees above).

Q4/

Can I use my private health cover?

Some clients may be eligible for a Private Health Fund Rebate.  To determine if you have relevant mental health coverage, you will need to check with your private health fund to determine what benefits you are eligible for, the rebate per session, and any limits on number of sessions or annual rebate entitlement.

You cannot claim both a Medicare and Private Health Fund rebate, you will need to choose which you prefer.  If you wish to claim Private Health Insurance benefits, you are responsible for ensuring your eligibility and are responsible for any gap that your health insurance does not cover.  Please note cancellation fees are not covered by private health insurers.

Q5/

Are third-party payments possible?

Some clients may prefer their fees to be paid by a third-party such as the Motor Accident Insurance Board (MAIB), Workers Compensation, or a Government Department.  This will need to be arranged with the third-party in advance and you will need to provide an authority for payment from that organisation including any claim numbers and limits (number of sessions or total amount approved).

You will be liable for any fees not paid by the third party, including cancellation fees or if the invoice is rejected.  If the fees take more than 4 weeks to process you will be required to pay the account directly and then arrange reimbursement for yourself later.

Q6/

Is there a cancellation fee?

$66 inc GST - Cancellation Fee (less than 24hr notice/non-attendance

Please consider the scheduling of your appointment carefully.  It may not be realistic to expect to return to work or school after a session, depending on the content discussed.  Also appointments will not always finish on time so please avoid scheduling other commitments too soon after the appointment time.

Appointments can be rescheduled if you have competing commitments, however there will be a cancellation fee if you do not notify Dr Morgan by telephone, text or email at least 24 hours in advance.
